Take the Long Way and Autotour the Smokies this Fall!

Are you looking for a new way to tour the Smokies this fall? We have just the idea for you! Hop in the car, grab your favorite snacks and drinks, and set out to explore the Smokies by car. This is one of the best ways to see the Smokies because you are able to cover more ground and visit more areas than if you were to travel by foot. There are so many great places to see in the Smokies, and we highly recommend that during at least part of your trip, you plan to explore some of them via your car. Below we’ve listed a few tips to help you get the most out of your auto tour!

Make a Plan

One of the first things you should do before you set out on your path for the autotour is to take some time to map out where you want to go (if you want to! Sometimes it’s fun to be spontaneous and just land wherever you want to in the moment.) However, we recommend at least having a general idea of where you want to go just so you don’t miss anything you really want to see.

Make a note of all the places that you can’t wait to see. You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram for some ideas on places to visit. You can also follow Visit Sevierville and Visit Gatlinburg as they are always posting ideas for you to take. Here are some great places to autotour that we compiled for you as well:

  • Cades Cove (this is a long journey but 100% worth it. Be warned, there will be traffic during the fall because this is one of the most desirable areas in the Smoky Mountains!)

  • Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail

  • Greenbrier River

  • Bluff Mountain

Take Everything You Need

You might be gone a while so make sure you have snacks and drinks on hand, and if you want to, pack a picnic in advance and a blanket. There will be a lot of great places to enjoy a picnic along the way. You may also want to bring some hiking shoes in case you want to hop out of the car and explore on foot.
