Our Favorite Early Spring Views in the Smokies

Early spring in the Smoky Mountains offers visitors a unique experience: with the frost and chill evaporating with the rising of the spring sun, the deep greens of the trees and the sprawling wildflower blooms make for some mesmerizing views of the Smokies.

No. 1 Clingmans Dome

Just a short drive up the 7 mile Clingman’s Dome Road presents visitors with arguably the best view in the entire mountain range. Clingman’s Dome is an observation tower at the highest point (6,643 feet, to be exact) in the Great Smoky Mountains and offers complete panoramic views. While the best view is attained by a mile and a half hike, walking out to the observation deck makes it worth the effort.

No. 2 Great Smoky Mountain Wheel

When venturing to Pigeon Forge, you won’t want to miss a spin on the Mountain Wheel. If you aren’t one for hikes in order to get the view, taking a ride on the 200-feet tall, all-glass ride is the way to go. In early spring, the feeling of regrowth and festivities abound on Pigeon Forge Island, and the wheel is the best way to take in the whole area.

No. 3 Abrams Falls

For those looking to trek some of the Smoky Mountains National Park trails, the 5-mile round trip hike to Abrams Falls is a must. It’s on the Cades Cove Loop (another popular sight-seeing destination) and offers visitors a glimpse of paradise. The 20-foot tall waterfall, mossy rocks, and lush trees surrounding the falls make it an ideal place to stop and take a moment to revel in the beauty.

No. 4 Your Cabin Porch

Of course, we would be remiss to not point out the obvious. The best view of the Smokies is perhaps the most easily attained: from the porch of your Mountain Air cabin. Within minutes of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, any of the cabins offer sweeping views of rolling green spring foliage, the rising and setting sun, and the wildlife taking sanctuary. Grabbing a cup of coffee, a good book, and your travel partner makes taking in the early spring days a moment to cherish.

Mountain Air Cabin Rentals vacation homes are located throughout the Smoky Mountains: Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Wears Valley. We are close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, many dinner shows and theaters, local arts and crafts, and a variety of other activities.
