Smoky Mountain Must-Sees
Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains might seem like a daunting task to plan at first- what should you see? Where should you stay? One of the best aspects of the Smoky Mountains is that there is no wrong choice. Anytime you go, anything you see, it’s worth it! But if we had to boil down this incredible place to just a few must-see stops, here’s our top recommendations.
We consider this a staple in the area. The views of the mountains while standing in the rolling foothills, the immersive natural beauty and the unique sights along the way all make this trail an absolute must. The 6,800 acre valley has an 11-mile trail where you can drive or walk. One of the more popular hiking trail, originating at the cove, takes you to Abrams Falls, a stop all on its own!
While not the tallest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains, Mount LeConte comes in at a respectable third, rising 6,593 feet in elevation. By taking the Alum Cave Trail, you get to see waterfalls, wildflowers, and the Alum Cave. When you reach the top, after the constantly surprising and naturally entertaining hike, you’re rewarded with some of the most beautiful views in the Smokies.
This waterfall looks like it was taken straight out of a movie. The Trillium Gap Trail passes directly underneath the cascading water, making for a cooling and breathtaking moment. Out of all the waterfalls in the park, Grotto Falls is certainly the most unique and mesmerizing.
