The Best of Winterfest: Where to See the Cool Light Displays
Winterfest is such an amazing time of year in the Smoky Mountains. There are so many amazing light displays to see while you’re in town. You will be amazed to see millions of twinkling lights lining the streets, covering the trees, shaped into cool characters and scenes, and telling Christmas stories (like the 12 days of Christmas in Pigeon Forge). If you’ve been here before during the holidays, you already know what to expect. If you haven’t been here before, we invite you to join us for Winterfest! Here are some of the places you won’t want to miss while you’re here.
- Parkway in Pigeon Forge: The Parkway in Pigeon Forge is blanketed with lights during Winterfest. The streets are lined with twinkling lights and they form beautiful decorations as you drive down the parkway. In the median, you will see the tale of the 12 days of Christmas told through twinkling lights, and it’s definitely something you won’t want to miss!
- Entrance to Gatlinburg: The entrance to Gatlinburg always has the iconic “Welcome to Gatlinburg” sign. Then, as you drive down the parkway you will see lots of beautiful lights surrounding you on all sides (including up above you!) Tip: Take a ride on Gatlinburg’s Trolley Ride of Lights to really see all that Gatlinburg’s Winterfest display has to offer.
- Highway 66: As you enter the Smoky Mountain area, you will probably use highway 66 (after getting off at exit 407 on I40). As you drive into the area, you won’t want to miss all the cute light displays on the area. BONUS! You can also stop off at Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland! Drive through the Wonderland to see all the neat light displays you’ve been dreaming of this holiday season, and even a cool lit up tunnel!
- Highway 321: While in Gatlinburg, make sure to take a turn on red light 3 to travel up 321. You will see lots of beautiful lights on your way. Cute characters and adorable Christmas scenes line the roads as you drive.
