There’s Nothing Like Spring in the Smokies!
The Smoky Mountains are beautiful at any time of year, making a family vacation in the Smokies a great choice no matter what time you go. The park and nearby towns burst to life in spring, though, and many of the attractions in Pigeon Forge open for the first time. Plan a few days or even longer for your family vacation in the Smokies and go on a wildflower hike, enjoy the amusement parks in Pigeon Forge, and enjoy affordable luxury at one of our cabins in the Smokies.
Enjoy Spring Wildflowers
The best way to enjoy spring in the Smokies is to go to see the amazing wildflowers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are several hikes with incredible displays of different flowers, from very short walks to longer trails. Almost any hike, however, will reveal beautiful wildflowers.
A perfect hike to walk with little ones is the Cove Hardwood Self-Guided Nature Trail. Located by the starting point for the Chimney Tops, an incredible hike itself, this three-quarters of a mile path has one of the highest densities of wildflowers in the park despite being one of the easiest. In late May, enjoy yellow and white trillium and white-fringed phacelia, while Solomon’s seal lasts into June.
In June, the colors on Andrews Bald are unparalleled anywhere in the region. Two of the flowering plants for which the Smokies are best known, rhododendron and flame azalea, both bloom in incredible quantities on this trail. At only 3.5 miles, this trail is a good one for even moderate walkers, plus it starts at Clingman’s Dome, another excellent choice for a family vacation in the Smokies.
Enjoy Amazing Attractions in Pigeon Forge
There is a myriad of attractions in Pigeon Forge that are great for kids of all ages. Most famous, of course, is Dollywood, which recently had a huge expansion, Wildwood Grove. Other options include the Titanic Museum Experience and WonderWorks, both of which will thrill your younger members while offering plenty of entertainment for adults.
There are seven Ripley’s locations as well, ranging from the classic ‘Believe It or Not!’ to the famous Aquarium of the Smokies. Plenty of active options exist as well, including mini-golf, laser tag, go-karts, and others. It’s also worth considering outdoor options like rope courses, ziplines, and mountain coasters, as well.
Whichever options suit your family vacation in the Smokies the best, make your base camp one of our cozy cabins in Pigeon Forge. In addition, all of them have full kitchens, making it easy to save money on dining and pack plenty of snacks. Plus, there is nothing better than a hot tub or fireplace at the end of a long, fun day!
