Two Driving Tours in the Great Smoky Mountains

The best scenic drives through the Smoky Mountains are the ones where you can see anything and everything. The Smokies are known for their natural beauty, incredible views, and the abundance of wildlife.

While some people enjoy a hiking adventure, not everyone can hike around the Smokies, or some just choose not to. Fortunately, the Smoky Mountains were actually created with auto touring in mind. Seriously, what better way to see the entire Great Smoky Mountains National Park than riding in comfort?

Today, Mountain Air Cabin Rentals is excited to share our two favorite driving tours in the Great Smoky Mountains: Cades Cove Loop Road and Newfound Gap Road.

Cades Cove Loop Road

Cades Cove is known as one of the most stunning areas of the Smoky Mountains. It is a favorite destination for many people visiting the Smokies. Cades Cove Loop Road is an 11 mile, one-way road through Cades Cove that really makes for quite a scenic drive through an amazing valley. The loop allows tourists to see things while driving at their own pace and it even allows you to pull off the side of the road to really take it all in.

While driving, you will be able to see buildings built by the pioneers and preserved by the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and wildlife is easy to spot as you drive the loop as well. Visitors can also see fields of beautiful wildflowers!

Cades Cove Loop Road can be found right off of Laurel Creek Road.

Newfound Gap Road

Newfound Gap is a 32-mile long drive that really showcases the beauties of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Gap is actually the highest drivable pass through the Smokies, which is probably what makes the views so great! Visitors will notice that the Newfound Gap drive is a bit faster than the other ones because the entire road is paved as it is a US Highway. We promise the views are still spectacular though!

While driving visitors will come across numerous pullouts that provide stunning mountain and forest views. If you decide you want to get out, be sure to bring a light jacket. The elevation is 3,000 feet high making it about 10 degrees cooler!

The scenic drives are a great way to explore the Smokies while being comfortable in your own car! At Mountain Air Cabin Rentals we recommend trying this on your next visit to the Great Smoky Mountains!

Mountain Air Cabin Rentals vacation homes are located throughout the Smoky Mountains: Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Wears Valley. We are close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, many dinner shows and theaters, local arts and crafts, and a variety of other activities.
